Young Scientist Award

Gemäß der URSI Tradition wird bei der Kleinheubacher Tagung 2012 ein Young Scientist (YS) Award Programm eingeführt. Jungwissenschaftler/Jungwissenschaftlerinnen unter 35 Jahren, die als Hauptautor/Hauptautorinnen an der Tagung teilnehmen wollen, sind eingeladen, sich auch an dem neu eingerichteten YS-Award Programm zu beteiligen. Bewerbungen aus allen Kommisionsthemen (siehe ‘Call for Papers‘ zur KH2012) sind willkommen.

Bewerbung und Termin: Zur Teilnahme an dem YS-Award Programm werden folgende Unterlagen erbeten:

1. Ein Abstract (nur Text) von nicht mehr 500 Worten sowie die Angabe der Kommission (siehe ‘Call for Papers’), der das Beitragsthema zuzuordnen ist.
2. Ein vollständiger Paper-Beitrag von mindestens vier und maximal zwölf Seiten. Der Beitrag sollte auf unveröffentlichtem Material basieren. Die Formatierung des Papers sollte nach folgendem Template erfolgen.
3. Ein aktueller Lebenslauf.
4. Ein Empfehlungsschreiben von dem/der betreuenden Professor/Professorin oder dem/der zuständigen Leiter/Leiterin der wissenschaftlichen Einrichtung.
5. Die vier oben aufgeführten Dokumente ((3) und (4) bitte als eine PDF Datei) müssen bis zum 12. Juli 2012 elektronisch über das EDAS-Portal eingereicht werden.

Qualifikation: Der/Die Bewerber/Bewerberin sollte unter 35 Jahren sein und seine/ihre wissenschatliche Arbeit muss im Rahmen eines Promotionsvorhabens durchgeführt sein.

Auswahlverfahren und Award: Aus den Einreichungen an das YS-Award Programm wird das Awards-Komitee bis maximum sechs Einreichungen in die Endauswahl (Finalist) aufnehmen. Diejenigen Einreichungen, die nicht zu dieser Endauswahl (Finalist) gehören, werden automatisch in den Pool der regulären Einreichungen der KH2012 weitergeleitet und entsprechend bearbeitet. Die Finalisten werden eingeladen, ihre Papers in einer speziellen ‘Young-Scientist-Award Session’ zu präsentieren. Die Präsentationen werden jeweils maximal 20 Minuten Podiumszeit betragen (15 Minuten für die Präsentation und 5 Minuten für die Diskussion). Alle Finalisten, die präsentiert haben, werden als Anerkennung und Belobigung ein 'Certificate of Merit’ für die erfolgreiche Teilnahme an dem YS-Award Programm und eine Geldprämie von €400 erhalten. Nach den Präsentationen in der speziellen YS-Award Session wird, unter Berücksichtigung des schriftlichen Beitrags und des Vortrags, ein/eine Preisträger/Preisträgerin für den 'Best Young-Scientist-Paper Award’ ausgewählt. Der Preisträger/die Preisträgerin wird ein Zeugnis und eine Anerkennungsprämie von insgesamt €1000 erhalten. Die Preisjury besteht aus dem Vorsitz des Landesausschusses, den Kommissionsvorsitzenden, dem/der Tagungsleiter/Tagungsleiterin und dem Leiter des Award-Komitees.

In keeping with the established URSI tradition, the next National URSI "Kleinheubacher Tagung" (Conference) 2012, due to be held in Miltenberg, Germany, will have an accompanying Young Scientist Award Programme. Applications are invited from young scientists under 35 years of age who, as the main author, intend to participate at the meeting. Topics from all commissions (please refer to Call for Papers, KH2012) will be considered.

Application Procedure and Deadlines: All applicants are required to submit:

1. An abstract of maximum 500 words, clearly stating the URSI commission related to the topic. The abstract should be based on unpublished material.
2. A full paper of minimum four and maximum twelve pages, based on unpublished material. This template should be used for the correct formatting.
3. An up-to-date curriculum vitae.
4. A letter of recommendation from the Professor or the head of the research institution, under whose guidance the Ph.D. research is being carried out.
5. The four documents listed above, out of which the documents (3) and (4) in one single PDF file, should be uploaded by the 12th July 2012 using the EDAS-Portal.

Eligibility: Young scientist applicants should be candidates working towards a Ph.D. degree and under the age of 35 years.

Evaluation Procedure and Awards: From the applications received, the awards committee will select a maximum of six (6) young-scientist-finalists. Applications not belonging to the list of finalists will be automatically re-directed to the regular pool of paper submissions for further processing. The finalists will be invited to present their papers at a special Young Scientist Session. The total presentation time of each paper will be twenty (20) minutes (15 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for discussions).

All finalists, who have presented at this special session, will receive a certificate of merit as well as a cash award of €400. Following the presentations in the special session, and under consideration of both the written contribution and the oral presentation, the most meritorious candidate will be nominated for the 'Best Young Scientist Paper Award'. The awardee will receive an award citation and atotal cash award of €1000. The jury consists of the chairman of the National URSI Board, the commission chairs, the conference chair, and the head of the awards committee.
